Pregnancy is a beautiful journey, but it’s no secret that it can come with physical challenges as your body grows and prepares for birth. At Roots Wholistic Health, we specialize in helping moms feel more comfortable and confident throughout pregnancy using a safe, gentle, and highly effective chiropractic approach called the Webster Technique.
In this post, we’ll cover what the Webster Technique is, why certification matters, how it supports your body during pregnancy, and when we recommend beginning care to get the best results for both you and your baby.
What Is the Webster Technique?
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment designed to restore balance and alignment in the pelvis and surrounding structures during pregnancy. By gently correcting misalignments in the sacrum and pelvis, the technique helps:
Reduce tension in the pelvic muscles and ligaments
Improve pelvic mobility for greater comfort
Support optimal fetal positioning for safer + easier births
Promote better nervous system communication between your brain and body
This technique is especially helpful for relieving low back pain, hip discomfort, and pelvic pressure—common challenges as your body changes during pregnancy.
Why Certification Matters
Not all chiropractors are trained in pregnancy-specific techniques, which is why proper certification is so important. The Webster Technique requires additional education and training through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).
At Roots Wholistic Health, both of our doctors are ICPA-certified in the Webster Technique, meaning we’ve received specialized training to safely and effectively care for pregnant women at every stage.
How the Webster Technique Supports Pregnancy & Birth
Research shows that women under regular chiropractic care during pregnancy often experience:
More comfortable pregnancies – By reducing pelvic and lower back tension, moms typically have less pain and discomfort as their bodies grow and change.
Easier and shorter labors – When the pelvis and surrounding ligaments are balanced, babies have more room to move into an optimal position, often leading to smoother deliveries.
Better baby positioning – While the Webster Technique does not turn breech babies, it creates an environment where babies are more likely to settle into the best position for birth naturally.
When We Start Webster Care
At Roots, we begin using the Webster Technique in the first trimester and continue throughout pregnancy and postpartum.
First & Second Trimesters → We focus on gentle pelvic adjustments to support alignment, reduce discomfort, and keep your body balanced as it adapts to hormonal and postural changes.
Third Trimester (Around 37 Weeks) → We add round ligament contacts, a gentle technique to release tension in the ligaments supporting the uterus. This helps create more space for your baby to move into the best possible position for birth.
