At Roots Wholistic Health, we believe every mom deserves a comfortable, empowered pregnancy and birth experience. Chiropractic care during pregnancy isn't just about easing back pain—it’s about helping your body function at its best so both you and baby can thrive.
Let’s break down how chiropractic adjustments support you throughout each trimester, how often you might benefit from care, and how the Webster Technique plays a key role in your pregnancy journey.
What Is the Webster Technique?
The Webster Technique is a gentle, pregnancy-specific chiropractic protocol designed to balance the pelvis, reduce tension in the surrounding ligaments and muscles, and create space for optimal baby positioning. It’s not about turning babies—it’s about making sure the body is aligned and functioning so that baby can do what baby is meant to do.
At Roots Wholistic Health, we are certified in the Webster Technique and incorporate this protocol throughout all stages of pregnancy—with specific modifications based on your trimester and baby’s position.
First Trimester (Weeks 1–13): Setting the Foundation
Frequency: Every 3–4 weeks
Hormones are shifting, ligaments begin to loosen, and your body is laying the groundwork for pregnancy. While symptoms might still be mild, subtle misalignments can already begin.
How Webster Helps: In the first trimester, we focus on pelvic balance using Webster’s sacral analysis and gentle adjustments to ensure your nervous system is functioning optimally. While we don’t yet use the Round Ligament contacts, we begin addressing tension in the pelvis early to support the body’s foundational structure.
Benefits:
Regulates hormones via the nervous system
Eases early symptoms like headaches, fatigue, and nausea
Prepares the pelvis for healthy growth and development
Second Trimester (Weeks 14–27): Adapting to Growth
Frequency: Every 2–3 weeks (or more often if symptoms arise)
As your baby and belly grow, your center of gravity shifts, leading to increased pressure on your spine and pelvis. Round ligament pain, low back aches, and sciatica often emerge during this time.
How Webster Helps: We continue sacral and pelvic adjustments and begin gently addressing any tension patterns through the psoas and broad ligaments (without direct Round Ligament contact). These adjustments help balance the uterus and support better positioning for baby.
Benefits:
Reduces hip and back pain
Improves pelvic mobility
Encourages optimal space for baby’s development
Supports restful sleep and increased energy
Third Trimester (Weeks 28–Birth): Preparing for Delivery
Frequency: Weekly adjustments
This is the home stretch. Your body is getting ready for labor, and the alignment of your pelvis becomes even more critical for a smooth, efficient birth.
How Webster Helps: In the third trimester—especially from 37 weeks onward—we begin incorporating the Webster Round Ligament contacts as part of the protocol. These targeted contacts help reduce uterine torsion and tension on the ligaments, allowing baby to get into the best possible position for birth.
Benefits:
Encourages head-down, anterior fetal positioning
Relieves sciatic and pubic symphysis pain
Reduces intrauterine constraint
Supports a more efficient and less painful labor and delivery
How Chiropractic Care Benefits Baby Too
Adjustments during pregnancy don’t just benefit mom—they create a more balanced and functional environment for baby. With less tension and more space, baby can move, grow, and position themselves naturally.
Chiropractic care may help baby by:
Reducing risk of posterior or breech positioning
Allowing for more efficient labor and delivery
Supporting healthy neurological development
So, How Often Should You Come In?
While every pregnancy is unique, here’s a general guide:
First Trimester: Every 3–4 weeks
Second Trimester: Every 2–3 weeks
Third Trimester: Weekly (especially starting at 37 weeks and beyond)
If you're dealing with pain, weakness, fatigue, or positioning concerns, we may recommend more frequent visits for a short time.
